The newly arrived Pi-Napo Pizzeria on the corner of JPA and Maury Ave is without a doubt my new favorite restaurant in Charlottesville. From the Serie A football matches on the televisions to the rotating gelato display case to the dual behemoth pizza ovens burning at 900+ degrees, this is the genuine article. As an aspiring pizzaiolo, I was in my element as I walked in greeted by a pallet of 55lb Caputo Tipo “00” flour bags and San Marzano tomatoes on their menu. Both of these ingredients are used in Hawk City Deep Dish so naturally I felt affirmed, after all, when in Napoli do as the Neapolitans do.

I took my Mom here two weeks ago and then did a return visit yesterday with my Dad. We got the Peppe and the Margerita, both were sensational. Due to the temperature of the oven, the pizza is ready in minutes. The slices fold easily and the crusts are slightly burnt with a savory chew to them. The mozzarella flavor bursts in your mouth and the basil aromas tantalize. Do yourself a favor and stop by to support Pi-Napo, you’ll be happy you did.
