The Clumsy Interloper

I wanted to take a quick break from my pizza journey to mark this solemn date. Anees, who I fancy a tremendous songwriter and performer out of northern Virginia, is of Palestinian and Lebanese decent. My favorite tracks from him are: Sun and Moon, Drunk on Myself, Slip, What Lovers Do, Free Me and Sunny Day.

However he recently released Kiss My Wounds and I’ve been playing it almost daily. His heartbreaking lyrics about what has transpired over the last year in Palestine are so sorrowful they stir tears. The horrific footage of devastation to human life is indelibly etched on this moment of time. While many feel powerless to effect change with a vote, a protest, a post – I am heartened by Anees and his ability to tap into his pain so beautifully to construct a song of such resonance and importance.
