“The blinking line is whatever sits in front of you waiting to be brought into existence.” –Rob Bell from How to be Here

The act of opening a word processing document (or blog for that matter) and staring at that blinking vertical cursor line is such a primordial human experience. If you strip us down to our core motivations we invariably yearn to be heard, seen and understood by others. This fundamental connection underpins our relationships, sustains our purpose, and grants us peace when confronted with tragedy and trauma.

Staring at that blinking line then serves as a scary, solitary moment. The flickering instant before the spark when everything is still possible. We must create something new without the promise of a return volley from the abyss. Will what we say next confirm our bona fides as worthy passengers on this space rock called Earth? Do we matter? Does anyone care about us? Will we be enough?

With this post, I have supplanted the power of the mystical blinking line and now aim to bend it to my own design. I will share in these margins without concern for SEO or social media approval. I have no mission statement or overarching vision, just a desire to write and bring my thoughts into existence. The blinking line is now officially my ally in this continuum of darkness. You are my unwitting audience who happened upon this page, most likely in error, and now you must decide if this beats doomscrolling on Instagram. Godspeed to you.
